Advocates provide immediate direct assistance in aiding victims in obtaining medical care, interacting with the criminal justice system, referrals to local services and legal support agencies, and in obtaining domestic violence and stalking protection orders. Links domestic violence victims to an advocate who provides information and support to callers, refers victims to shelter, and arranges or provides in-person support of victims at the hospital.

Offer clients guidance when filling out protection orders and other forms, attend court hearings with or in place of the victim as permitted and help victims contact attorneys to make sure they are able to communicate their needs.
